Summer Term

Welcome to The Sunshine Room blog!

We hope you are all well rested after the Easter break.  It is great to be back, as we have a lot of fun things planned for this half term.

This half term, the topic is, ‘Under the Sea’. The areas we cover are: Life skills; fine motor skills; gross motor skills; phonics; Forest Schools; daily teaching under the barriers to learning (targeted specifically for the children’s individual needs); speech and language; sensory processing; Music and PE.

At the end of last term, we celebrated World Autism Awareness Week.  The whole school got involved, with assemblies, posters, dressing in pink or purple day, friendship bracelets, competitions and a special menu designed by some of the children in The Sunshine Room. We ended this fantastic week with a picnic in Plymouth Grove park for parents and children of The Sunshine Room.  Luckily the rain held off and we were able to celebrate outside, with Mr Turner leading a few forest school games, planting some seeds and then we ate lots of delicious food!  The whole week was a huge success and we even raised money for the National Autistic Society!

Thank you for your continued support, I know you are all proud of your children as we are too, they are working hard and really coming on leaps and bounds.  It’s fantastic to see the progress they are all making.

Let’s hope this summer term is filled with lots of sunshine!

Kind regards,

Miss Doherty and The Sunshine Room team
